Thought I'd share some pics and a video of my small routed HO track.
It's fully functional, running Laptimer2000 via reed switches.
Lap length is about 10.5m. The aim for this layout was to fit as much track as possible on a single board.
The track is constructed on a 9mm MDF board, with a solid pine frame for rigidity.
Continuous power railing is 2.5 x 0.5mm flat stitching wire, which gives a little more downforce than standard Tomy rail.
Surface paint is a sprayed enamel, backed by an mdf sealer/primer.
The whole table is designed to be stored on edge, so the frame is built strong, and has 2 rubber door stops on one edge to rest on.
The initial design concept was to run anticlockwise, but testing soon showed that the clockwise direction was a much better drive.
The track is very tight, and great for developing mid throttle skills. Silicone tyres really hook up on this surface, resulting in flat 2 second lap times for a polymer car with more to come.
I still consider it a test track. The future plan is to build a track 2 standard boards long (standard board is 4'x8'). How soon this happens is anyone's guess, but once started it should only take a few weeks to complete.
